What is heat stroke?Heat stroke is one of the most serious form of heat injury and should be considered an emergency. Heat stroke is the condition when the body temperature reaches 104°F or above due to protracted exposure to the sun. The dehydrated body is at more risk. This sudden increase in temperature of our body may ensue the failure of temperature regulation system of our body and other fatal complications.
Main Symptoms Of Heat Stroke Are-
- Throbbing headache
- Red, hot or dry skin
- Rapid heartbeat
- Muscle weakness
How To Avoid This?“The best way against any heat related illness is prevention. Be extra careful with extra heat around.” However, the tips are very basic and obvious, go through them to be extra careful .
Hydrate YourselfAs mentioned earlier, one of the major cause of heat stroke is dehydration. So, basically main precaution against heat stroke is to be hydrated throughout the day. Drink water even if you are not feeling thirsty. Try other drinks which are non – caffeinated , non-alcoholic and cool. Drink at least 3 litres of water in a day and other fruits like water melon, chikku and kiwi etc. to keep you hydrated and therefore, prevented from heat stroke.
Choose Right ClothesSummer and tight clothing, uff they should be definitely mutually exclusive. One should always dress according to the weather. Wearing tight clothes can be a bane for your health. Wear loose fitting and light coloured clothes since dark colours absorb the heat.
Stay Out Of The SunWork is worship. Therefore, don’t avoid your work, but still stay out of the sun as much as possible to avoid heat related illnesses.
Since heat stroke is a very serious medical emergency, so if you suspect any heat stroke case in front of you, call an ambulance and initiate first aid until they arrive. Move the person into some air conditioned area or pour some water on the patient directly.
Put ice cubes on the temperature sensitive areas of the body like groin, neck, armpits etc. to cool down the body. Even an ice bath can help your body cool down.
Therefore, if you have any symptoms of heat stroke, go and consult any doctor.
