As diet contributes 70% to the weight loss, it is important to choose and follow it rightly. High protein diet has got huge attention as it is believed this diet plan burns the body fat.

In this diet plan, we basically consume 20%-25% of protein a day whereas normally we consume only 5%-10% of protein daily.

Many of us go for this diet plan even before determining whether they are right for us or not, which can be harmful to our body. So here are the pros and cons of High protein diet you need to know.

Pros

Undoubtedly this diet plan helps to have quick weight loss and drops cholesterol level. Protein is an essential nutrient as it rebuilds the cells. It benefits hair, nails, cartilage, skin, bone and blood cells. Protein is also important for hormone and enzyme production. Having less calorie intake, it lessens the hunger feeling between the meals. It not only boosts energy levels but also develops the growth and maintenance of lean muscle mass.
There is no drowsiness after meals which usually happen in other diet plans. This diet plan is an advantage for patients with osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and also benefits women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Cons

Fruits and vegetables are sources of dietary fiber. But due to cutting them down, constipation can be faced. High protein diet mainly consists of animal fats which raise the risk of heart disease and several kinds of cancer. Not only it causes vitamin and mineral deficiency but also stresses on kidney if the appropriate amount of water is not consumed. Due to consumption of ketone during this diet, body odor is the consequence. To neutralize this condition, enough water must be consumed in order to dilute the accumulation of ketone.
Due to rapid weight loss, causes a headache and irritability. Moreover, this diet plan cannot be a long-term solution for obesity.
Now the question arises that what is actually right to be done

Having high protein diet for a limited time can be beneficial for rapid weight loss. Imbalance diet is going to affect your health. Thus, it is important to consume other nutrients to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
